Velux Stiftung is an independent charitable foundation supporting research in the areas of daylight, forestry, healthy ageing, and ophthalmology. The foundation aims to contribute to a lasting improvement for the benefit of society.

Funding statistics 2024

27 projects supported with CHF 9.2 million

The foundation received 131 requests out of which 25 project applications were funded. The success rate for external requests was 19.1 % in 2024. Additionally, two foundation projects received support.

CHF 233.9 million assets - 7.6 % performance

Velux Stiftung pursues investments that have the potential to generate substantial and long-term total returns that offset inflation, in order to give out grants according to its foundation purpose in the long run.

Foundation Projects

The foundation also formulates its own projects which function as a kick-starter or as advocacy projects. Most of our support goes to promoting the importance of daylight.

The DLA Annual Conference 2024 united experts to explore how daylight can drive sustainability: From clean energy to healthy cities, attendees discussed harnessing light for a brighter, greener future.
At DLA events, participants explore daylight insights from various disciplines and discover how this connects to their work.
The Daylight Awareness week, a public awareness campaign for the benefit of daylight, was a guest at the Berlin Science Week. It was the first Daylight Awareness week that combined in-person with online events.
The Daylight Award 2024 in Research went to Till Roenneberg. His research on circadian rhythms addresses key questions relating to daylight and human health, wellbeing and performance.
The Daylight Award 2024 in Architecture went to architect Alberto Campo Baeza in recognition of his work that celebrates the subtle qualities of daylight in buildings with a wide range of functions.
