The journey of the Daylight Academy started with the idea of having a constant platform for exchange between researchers and professionals working on daylight. A place where the often overlapping topics from the various disciplines and sometimes different perspectives can be discussed, where synergies and new ideas can develop. Now, the foundation board decided to support the second phase of this successful journey.
It started as a bottom-up initiative: After several scientific workshops organized by the foundation to identify hotspots of daylight research in 2013 and 2014, participating scientists showed a strong interest to have a permanent opportunity for exchange and collaboration. The idea was born and the Daylight Academy was inaugurated in November 2016.
The idea has become a prospering academy with currently 70 members, its own steering committee and an annual conference. Members and guests have participated in and realized various activities, including a winter school, several interdisciplinary publications, an open online course on daylight research as well as the Daylight Awareness week which was organized as a public event.
The foundation board of Velux Stiftung continues to be excited about the Daylight Academy’s successful journey and decided to support Phase 2 (2021-2025). Members welcomed the decision during this year’s annual conference. Although the 2020 edition had to take place online, the spirit of the Daylight Academy was tangible and the members vividly discussed daylight topics which usually fall into the cracks between the disciplinary grounds.
